  • 1 pound spicy Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic and spicy Italian sausage. Cook until the sausage is browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
