Greek Spaghetti Bolognese with Turkey Bacon and Fresh Herbs

Greek Spaghetti Bolognese (Makaronia Me Kima)

A delicious twist on traditional spaghetti bolognese, infused with the flavors of Greece.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces turkey bacon
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the turkey bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy.
  2. Remove the bacon and set aside. In the same skillet, add olive oil, onions, and garlic; sauté until soft.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet; stir well.
  4. Simmer for 15 minutes, then add bacon back to the skillet.
  5. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  6. Combine spaghetti with the sauce, add fresh parsley, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit turkey bacon and use lentils.
  • Fresh herbs can be substituted with dried herbs (1/3 of the amount).
